IV International ethnomusical symposium "Khoomei - phenomenon of the culture of Central Asia"

The program of the international throatsinging symposium

"KHOOMEI - 2003"

The International festival of throatsinging (overtone singing) "Khoomei" has been hold in Kyzyl, the capital of Tuva, since 1989. Then it was in 1993, 1995, 1998 and now, after 5 years, it is going to be hold this summer. A lot of throatsingers, scientists, tourists from all over the world come to Tuva to attend this event and meet and hear the fascinating sound of tuvan overtone singing.
This program is for the people who registered to participate in the competetion and the scientific part of the festival. The others can see all the competitions, concerts of the festival.

During the khoomei festival the hotel "Odugen" will be fully reserved for the registered participants of the festival.

25 June
9.00 Arrival and registration of participants of Khoomei symposium.
13.00 - 14.00 Lunch.
15.00 - Casting of lots by the participants of the competition
18.00 - 20.00 The presentation of the book "Tuvan throatsinging" by Zoya Kyrgys and the 10 years jubilee of the International throatsinging centre "Khoomei"
20.30 Dinner

26 June
8.00 - 8.45 Breakfast
9.00 - 12.30 Opening of the scientific part of the symposium. Plenary reports.
13.00 - 14.00 Lunch
14.30 - 16.30 Continuation of the science part of the symposium.
17.00 - 18.00 Dinner
18.30 - 23.00 The ceremony of the opening of the symposium. The beginning of the program of competition.

27 June

19.00 - 22.00 The ceremony of closing of the symposium. Rewarding the winners and the laureates.

29 - 30 June
Cultural program - trip to Erzin, south of Tuva. Meeting with culture and the way of life of tuvan nomads.

The cost for the registration of participants is $300
For Russia and the republics of former USSR 900 roubles.

The cost includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, transportation, guide interpreter, cultural program (trip to Erzin), each participant will be given document case with necessary things for the festival.
Not includes: accommodation

"Ustu-Hure"

Live world music festival "Ustu-Hure" is held to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Buddhist temple Ustuu-Hure which was destroyed at the thirties of the last century. The aims of the festival are:
- to strengthen humanism and understanding in this society.
- to provide possibilities for young musicians to play, to talk and to exchange information.
- to draw the attention of the public and the specialists to the perfect performances on traditional and classic music instruments by ensembles, groups and orchestras.
- discovery of new names of composers, interpreters and soloists of all forms of music, from song to composition.
- to support the musicians by the mass media.

The fesitval takes place in the town of Chadaana, 200 km. to the west of Kyzyl at the beginning of July.

EXAMPLARY PROGRAM

Day 1
12:00 - Registration for the participation at the Festival and allocation of space and place for all musicians and all guests
20:00 - Meeting of the participants and the organizers

Day 2
09:00 - Igor Dulush meets the leaders of all the groups
10:00 - Carnival Defile of Marching Bands in the town of Tchadan
16:00 - The Administration of the Town of Tchadan is receiving all the musicians
18:00 - Beginning of the Festival

Day 3
09:00 - Excursion to the temple "MAITREA" and visiting the Museum "BUJAN BADERGY"
14:00 - Festival

Day 4
09:00 - Visiting the temple "USTU-HURE"
18:00 - Gala concert and rewards for the winners and laureates of the Festival as well as rewards for the winners of the Human Year 2002 for their social engagement in the newspaper "Center of Asia"
23:00 - Jam session (the whole night)

Day5
08:00 - Departure to the lake of "SUT-CHOL" (milk lake)
